+I Am+ |
this is my story to add or not to add. i guess im adding. ahh, but there is so much to catch everyone up on. but i dont want to type it all! it saddens me. well, i just got home from this 2 day kayak trip. it was fun. heres how it went: DAY 1: so we wake up freakishly early and load everything up in the truck, boats and all, then say our goodbyes and leave for new sagayas to meet lil (our all natural guru), dave (her husband), lisa (the rock collector) and Quinn (her husband). all really cool people, all scientists i think...something like that. beats me. anywho. so we all leave to go out to whittier, dad and i stop in girdwood for the beer, then hit the road on to the tunnel. made the tunnel 2 minutes before it opened, perfect timing i must say. go on through, get to beach, unload and pack up. then we hit the waves. the water was glass, beautiful, no headwind, it was perfect, except for one thing, first of all it was raining and then....there was so much fog that you could barely see 100 feet in front of you. but we made it to shot gun cove just dandily, ate lunch and pressed on towards decision point. where we made the decision to [ultimately]...cross blackstone bay, the whole windy, rainy, foggy and wavey 2 or 3 miles. so we did and managed to dodge all boats going through. didnt die so far. we made it around the point on the other side and hit the beach for camp around 5:30pm. we had left the beach in whittier at noon, so it took 5 hours to go about 15 miles. we set up camp and lil made us eat tons of couscous, saying 'if you dont make it tomorrow, its because you didnt eat enough!!" so in essence, we were carbo-loading. i had too much carbs, i couldnt eat anymore. so we sat around the fire, drank our beer and inhaled smoke from the campfire. after we drank our beer we had some wine-smoking loon no less. (whooh whooh whooh COUGH whooh) everywhere, fish were jumping out in the water and lil was killing herself for not bringing her fishing stuff but lisa found her pole in her kayak, but we had no line or bait or hooks or anything. but later that everning, i saw something floating out in the water and sure enough, i picked up a bag of bait, herring bait, so now we had a pole and bait. no line or hooks. bummer. anyways, we ate dessert (friend apples in olive oil butter, with marionberry sauce and cream cheese on tortillas), which was berry good. then we went to bed. i slept soooo well. but i woke up in the middle of the night to it raining like no other. went back to sleep, and woke up on DAY 2 well, i woke up and it wasnt raining anymore. but i got up and had some oatmeal and licorice spice tea (great tea). inhaled some more smoke. it was really foggy and you could barely see where we would be crossing to...kinda creepy. so we broke down camp and dave found a fishing hook stuck in the tree right next to us. so we had bait, a hook, and a pole, all but the line. it was lame. so we went into surprise cove and paddled around, then headed back to whittier. another 15 miles home. so..the fog lifted quite a bit and we were able to see where we were going. even saw a bunch of glaciers and such. madfe it across the 3-4 miles of blackstone bay, windy, not rainy, wavey and yeah, miserable. had lunch. passed shotgun cove, saw whittier and paddled hard for the last 5 miles, as to make the 7 o'clock tunnel. made it back to the beach and with jello arms, hoisted the kayaks out of the water and up to the truck. got changed and hauled to the tunnel. JUST made it. wooo, so then we drove home. then i passed out around midnight and woke up and now im here typing. beth just came, so i gtg, later. +The Last Five+ |
